Ross joined Fahey Schultz Burzych Rhodes PLC shortly after it opened in 2008, bringing his experience as a municipalities attorney and drain lawyer to the Okemos law firm. In recognition of his work on behalf of his public sector clients, in 2010 and 2011, Ross was selected as a “Rising Star” in Michigan’s Super Lawyers publication.
Ross graduated from Kalamazoo College in 2004, and went on to obtain his law degree cum laude from Cooley Law School in 2007. In law school, Ross worked with various public service agencies, including the Michigan Attorney General’s Office, City of Lansing Teen Court, and Washtenaw County Public Defender’s Office.
Since graduating from law school, Ross has focused his practice on Michigan municipal law and Michigan drain law with an emphasis on zoning, building & planning, property tax appeals & special assessments, and Michigan’s Drain Code. As part of the firm’s Local Government Practice Group, he is the Okemos lawyer that serves as assistant Township Attorney, Village Attorney, and City Attorney to over 80 local municipalities and as counsel to county drain commissioners throughout Michigan where he handles litigation in administrative, trial, and appellate courts.
Ross is active in local bar association activities and community service projects, and was President of the Ingham County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers’ Section. He is a member of the Michigan, Ingham County, and Eaton County Bar Associations, the Michigan Association of Municipal Attorneys, an Associate Member of the Michigan Association of County Drain Commissioners, and admitted in all Michigan State and Federal Courts. He is also a volunteer soccer coach, speaks annually on Constitution Day in local public schools, serves as a volunteer moot court judge for local high school students, and participates in Cooley Law School’s Professionalism Orientation. In addition, Ross is general counsel for the Erickson Learning Center Foundation, where he serves on the foundation’s board of directors.
Ross has presented Township Law, Constitutional Law, Property Tax Law, and Freedom of Information Act seminars throughout the state, and has authored articles in various publications on Civil Litigation, Drain Law, and Township Law.
